How to Make White Furniture Look Antique ?

 

 

Antiquing furniture can be accomplished with any color, including white. Creating that worn-in look can be achieved with sand paper, a hammer and paint.

• Step (1) : Hit the furniture randomly using a hammer or cloth bag full of bolts and nails to create dents in the wood. Dents occur over time with furniture from moving and the like. Work slowly and spread out the dings. Approach the furniture at different angles when hitting the wood to avoid creating a pattern.
   

• Step (2) : Apply a light brown paint. Water down the paint until it is slightly diluted. Apply the paint lightly and rub it off with a clean dry cloth. The paint will fill in the cracks and create the illusion of the collection of dirt over time. Play with the look by using the clean rag to rub off excess paint before it dries.
   

• Step (3) : With a fine-grit sand paper, rough up the furniture. Lightly rub the furniture and expose the wood in areas where normal wear and tear would occur. If working with a chair, the wood on the front rungs should be exposed, as people place their feet on them and over time the paint wears off. Keep those areas in mind and expose the wood until you feel the look is authentic.
